This is Where the Frustration with Breakfast Lies

A few weeks ago during a staff meeting the employees in my department mentioned that they wanted to get together for more department breakfast and luncheon events.  They wanted to take a few moments to enjoy a meal together and socialize instead of all going their separate ways during their lunch hour.  We all decided to hold the first event on Valentine’s Day (today) and have a “Made with Love” employee breakfast in the office.  Everyone was asked to bring a homemade dish (made with love) to share with co-workers.  This is what is being served at our Valentine’s Day “Made with Love” Breakfast this morning:

  • Two boxes of frozen microwavable pancakes
  • One box of frozen microwavable sausage biscuits
  • One bag of McDonald’s hashbrowns
  • One bad of McDonald’s sausage and egg biscuits
  • Two store-bought apple pastries
  • One homemade bacon and egg quiche
  • One homemade hashbrown casserole

The department manager and myself supplied the Valentine-themed plates, napkins, silverware, cups, decorations, juices, muffins and other foods.

McDonalds’s?  Really???  She said it was “too cold” to get out of her car to go into the grocery store to buy anything else.  The drive-thru was open and her car heater was on.

There is nothing quite as frustrating as putting the effort into organizing and decorating an event that people ask for only to have them show up with frozen pancakes and McDonald’s biscuits.  This was planned over a month in advance.  I know I’m whining but I’m just feeling a bit disgruntled.
